Men's Wednesday Morning Bible Study

September 6th - December 13th, 2017

Wednesday mornings starting September 6 9:30-10:30am

The Men’s Bible Study at North Park has been a vibrant, consistent ministry for a number of years. This group of men have met to discuss scripture (and drink coffee!) for a number of years and we are grateful for the friendship and ministry that has been cultivated there.

This fall, the Men’s Bible Study will be tracking along with The Story. This group will offer dynamic teaching following the Story video based teaching accompanied by great coffee and discussion.

If you are looking for a way to connect with other men and learn more about the grand narrative of scripture, this will be a group that you will want to check out!

*The Story Bible is a great tool for this elective! Pick one up today for $10 at the Main Office or the Welcome kiosk.

And god created

And God Created...

October 24th, 2017

One of the areas of theology that often causes seekers to doubt the Christian church surrounds the theology of creation. Ironically, the doctrine of creation also represents a conversation that many Christians hesitate to engage in due to the diverse explosion of worldviews in the last century on the “genesis of humankind.”

This elective will explore the predominant worldviews of creation that range from the Biblical account of creation in six days to the secular worldview of evolution through random mutation and natural selection.

This conversation is foundational to how we understand ourselves, others and the world. Come as we explore the beauty and diversity of “God as the Creator”. Attendance is limited to 50 participants.

Elective Leaders: Dale W. Laird (PhD) and Shane Simms: Dale is a member at North Park and is a Professor and Canada Research Chair, at Western University, London, Ontario. Shane holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Tyndale Seminary in Toronto and is the Pastor of Adult Discipleship here at North Park.

The Study Safe House: How Emotional Safety is the Key to Raising Kids Who Live, Love & Lead Well You don’t need to do all the “right” things as a parent. Both science and the Bible show us that the most important thing we can provide for our kids is a place of emotional safety. In other words, the posture from which we parent matters infinitely more than the techniques of parenting. Emotional safety—more than any other factor—is scientifically linked to raising kids who live, love, and lead well. Through this study, moms will learn how to use emotional safety as a foundation from which they parent—and make a cultural impact that could change the world!

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. -Ephesians 2:10

We all have a unique story to tell, some more dramatic, some seemingly more simple. But as we will be learning in this season at North Park, our stories are significant because they are intimately connected to the story God is unfolding in our world. This year’s 8 to 8 Women’s retreat will provide a unique opportunity to find connection and inspiration across the generations, as we share our stories, reflect on God’s redeeming work in our lives, and catch a vision for how God is calling us forward and inviting us into His grand narrative of love and redemption.

Women from all ages and stages of life will gather together to connect, encourage, learn, grow, pray, and worship. We’ll have some time of interactive learning, enjoy some great food, and will still have plenty of unstructured time to relax or play, and to enjoy the beauty of Lake Huron in Lambton Shores. Whether you’re needing some quiet time to reflect and refresh your soul, a break from the responsibilities of your day to day life, or an opportunity to meet some new friends and enjoy time talking, laughing and learning alongside other women of faith, you won’t want to miss this year’s 8 to 8 Women’s Retreat. Canada s indigenous peoples

The Church and Canada's Indigenous Peoples

November 5th, 2017

Sunday November 5, 7:00-8:30pm

Every Church has to give thoughtful consideration to the story of the country in which it exists, embracing the idea that God has a sacred plan and sacred set of responsibilities for its presence in that country. As Canadians our story must include relationship with our Indigenous Peoples. Their future is our future; their struggle is our struggle.

Brett and Sheena Fliesser, along with a number of young adults at North Park, have spent seven years partnering with Mosaic and Byron Community Church in building a relationship with Aundeck Omni Kaning (AOK) First Nations Community on Manitoulin Island.

If you have an interest in Canada’s Indigenous Peoples, or a desire to explore how North Park might respond to deeper relationship with them, then join us for this important conversation.

Elective Leader: Matthew Eckert

This is a Global 3.0 Conversation. These conversations are designed to explore vital global issues for North Park’s future.

Habits of grace spiritiual rhythms

Habits of Grace

November 12th - November 26th, 2017

Three seemingly unremarkable principles shape and strengthen the Christian life: listening to God’s voice, speaking to him in prayer, and joining together with his people as the church.

Though seemingly normal and routine, the everyday “habits of grace” we cultivate give us access to these God-designed channels through which his love and power flow — including the greatest joy of all: knowing and enjoying Jesus. Join us as we work through the book, “Habits of Grace”, as we learn some of the basic spiritual rhythms that lead to a healthy, vibrant journey with Christ. This is an elective that has value for someone new to faith or those who may be looking to reinvigorate their Christian experience.

Facilitated by Shane Simms.

Shane serves on the North Park pastoral team as the Pastor of Adult Discipleship. One of his passions is helping people to make their faith practical on a daily basis.

Child Dedication Fall 2017

November 18th - November 19th, 2017

Child Dedications are significant moments for families here at North Park. During these special services, parents publicly signify their intent to raise their child to know and love God, with the prayerful desire that one day, their child will choose Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour.

On dedication weekends, parents bring their children to the front of the auditorium at one of the weekend services to be introduced to the church community and to be prayed for by a member of our church leadership team.

If you are interested in having your child dedicated this November, please contact Cathy Thornton at cathy.thornton@northpark.ca for the link to our online application. In order to participate, applications must be submitted by October 22.

Maintaining a spiritual foundation

Maintaining a Spiritual Foundation...Even in Crisis

November 26th, 2017

Sunday November 26, 7:00pm

Life has a way of battering the foundations of our spiritual life, and when crises hit we come under even greater assault. Phil and Merillee Henderson are learning daily about how to stand strong under the pressures of living on mission. Their work with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) in Chad puts them in both cross cultural as well as challenging circumstances that push them to new places of learning and seeking God for the strength to endure.

Raising three kids, trying to love your neighbour…and seeking to help the marginalized….their story is a beautiful one that everyone can relate to. As a Pilot in Chad, Phil and the MAF team have faced some pretty extraordinary challenges in the past eighteen months; their story of survival will inspire you and have you in tears at the same time.

This is a Global 3.0 Conversation. These conversations are designed to explore vital global issues for North Park’s future.
